Held against the spectacular backdrop of RSA House’s Great Room where, in 1877 Alexander Bell gave the first practical demonstration of the telephone, the evening featured lively debates, thought-provoking presentations and some very tasty nibbles!

Tania Ziegler
Tania joined us to present her soon-to-be published research into How Alternative Finance is Changing Investor Behaviour. The Head of Global Benchmarking, Senior Research Associate at the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance, Cambridge Judge Business School, Tania leads the global alternative finance benchmarking initiative at the Centre, spanning Europe, the Americas, Asia-Pacific and Middle East and Africa. She has co-authored twelve industry reports with the Centre since 2016, and leads the SME Access to Finance Initiative in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Daniel is the editor of AltFi, focusing on fintech, alternative finance and the digitisation of financial services. He is a former journalist at The Times, the BBC and Reuters.

Meet our Panelists

Prof. Andrew Baum
Andrew is Professor of Practice at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford and Professor Emeritus at University of Reading. He is Chairman of Property Funds Research, Chairman of Newcore Capital Management and advisor to property organisations. He holds BSc, MPhil and PhD degrees from the University of Reading, and a graduate of the London Business School investment management programme, a chartered surveyor and a qualified member of the CFA institute (ASIP). He is author of PropTech 3.0: The Future of Real Estate, the most downloaded Saïd Business School report in 2017, and the most downloaded Proptech report on Infabode. He was voted one of the most influential people in Proptech in the 2017 Lendinvest list.

Daniel Levene
Daniel is the Head of Market Analysis at property investment company Cogress. He heads up a team of market analysts and has ultimate responsibility for the Cogess due diligence process, assessing the strength of development projects submitted to Cogress against housing needs, planning regulations, market conditions and projections. Before joining Cogress, Dan spent seven years in Accenture’s Capital Markets practice in London, focused on the UK and Asia and working with top-tier investment banking clients.

Ben Barbanel
Ben Barbanel is the Head of Debt Finance at OakNorth – the bank for entrepreneurs, by entrepreneurs – where he leads a team of 20 people who have collectively grown the loan book to over £1.8bn since its launch in 2015, without a single default to date. He also sits on the bank’s Credit Committee and is a member of the Bank’s Executive Committee. Prior to joining OakNorth in March 2015, Ben spent almost six years at Santander Corporate Bank, where in his last role, he was the Divisional Head of Business Development for London and the South East.
